Solopreneur named BC’s best

June 7, 2021 -

Jaimie Davis, creator of Indigenous wearable art, was recognized as the inaugural Best Solopreneur at the 2021 Small Business BC Awards. Davis, an entrepreneur from the Gitxsan and Nisga’a Nations, built her business, Jada Creations, on her original jewelry designs.

Major survey of BC First Nations’ economic development

The BC First Nation Community Economic Development Survey, developed in part by UVic’s National Consortium for Indigenous Economic Development, has been recently released by the BC Ministry of Jobs, Economic Development and Competitiveness. The analysis reveals the interconnectedness of Indigenous economic, cultural and social values. Empowered by traditions, guided by laws and values, Nations are returning to well-being and economic diversity.

Entrepreneurship and Indigenous education professors win prestigious teaching awards

A professor of entrepreneurship who has helped boost the number of Indigenous-owned businesses across BC and a professor of Indigenous education who has made significant advancements in the indigenization of curriculum for BC students are the 13th and 14th University of Victoria scholars recognized with Canada’s most prestigious award for excellence in leadership and teaching.
