Indigenous law graduate student wins top Canadian research award

UVic Law PhD student Aaron Mills was awarded the Social Sciences and Humanities Research Council of Canada (SSHRC) Talent award. The award is given to a single student each year across all the disciplines of the humanities and social sciences in Canada whose research "brings forward ideas that help us understand and improve the world around us." Mills' work is at the forefront of the movement to restore and revitalize Indigenous systems of law.

Indigenous law graduate student wins top Canadian research award

UVic Law PhD student Aaron Mills received the Social Sciences and Humanities Research Council of Canada (SSHRC) Talent award—one of its five “Impact Awards”—at a ceremony in Ottawa today. Mills’ work is at the forefront of the movement to restore and revitalize Indigenous systems of law, one of the central recommendations of the Truth and Reconciliation Commission report.

Paul Zehr and Bruce Wright survey the 10 big screen versions of Batman movies and assess each fight, accident and incident involving the Dark Knight for possible exposure to concussive impact.In the paper “Can Concussion Constrain the Caped Crusader?” the authors use Batman to highlight the cumulative effect of repetitive head injury.

Zwiers joins ranks of world's highly cited researchers

It’s always gratifying to have data-driven, third party recognition of UVic's global research impact. Thomson Reuters' 2016 list of the world’s most highly cited researchers includes climate statistician Francis Zwiers, of the Pacific Climate Impacts Consortium, as well as two previously recognized researchers: mechanical engineer Yang Shi and business professor Roy Suddaby.

This week: UVic Fall Convocation

UVic's Fall Convocation ceremonies, marking the successful completion of studies for 1,379 graduating students, will be held Wednesday and Thursday (at 10 a.m. and 2:30 p.m. each day) in the University Centre Farquhar Auditorium. A number of outstanding members of the graduating class are available to talk to the media.
