2008 Science Fair For Young Researchers
Do you ever wonder just how a figure skater spins? Or how caffeine affects your heart? Or whether we can harness our rainfall for energy? Get ready for some fun answers and scientific surprises this weekend at the Vancouver Island Regional Science Fair. Approximately 130 science enthusiasts from grades 4 to 12 are converging on the University of Victoria campus from across Vancouver Island to unveil some of their hard-earned knowledge and scientific discoveries. Volunteer staff and students from UVic and from the Victoria community will judge the annual event that is organized by the non-profit volunteer Society for the Advancement of Young Scientists (SAYS). This weekend’s bright minds have already earned accolades at their local science fairs and, on Monday, six projects will qualify to compete at the national 2008 science fair in Ottawa, May 10 to 18. The event is open to the public (donations are appreciated). For more information, visit http://web.uvic.ca/~virsf/.
