Howard Petch Scholarship

Nine scholarships are awarded to the students entering second, third, fourth or fifth year who achieve the highest academic standing in each of the Faculties of Business, Education, Engineering, Human and Social Development, Fine Arts, Law, Humanities, Science, and Social Sciences. The measure of academic standing will be grade point average on a full time course load (normally 12 units) taken in the preceding two academic terms. In the event of a tie, the scholarship will be shared. The amount of each scholarship will be $3,500 or the lesser amount required to place the recipient at a total amount of $5,000 (or a total amount of $10,000 for the Faculty of Law).

Recipients must be registered in a total of 12 or more units of study in two academic terms in the 12 month period (May to April) immediately preceding the adjudication of awards. Students who complete one academic term of 6 or more units and a co-op, work experience, practicum or international exchange term in the previous 12 months period (May to April) will also be considered for this scholarship.

Undergraduate Award in Indigenous Language Revitalization

One or more awards are given to Indigenous undergraduate students in the Faculty of Education enrolled in the Certificate in Indigenous Language Proficiency (CILP), the Diploma in Indigenous Language Revitalization (DILR) or the Bachelor of Education in Indigenous Language Revitalization (BEd ILR) who are developing their own language proficiency and have a strong record of contributing to their/a language community through their work. Preference will be given to students from Northwest Territories.

Part-time students (minimum 3.0 units) are eligible for this award.

Andreas Antoniou Medal for Digital Signal Processing

A medal is awarded annually to the B.Eng. graduate with the highest graduating GPA in Electrical Engineering or Computer Engineering with specialization in Digital Signal Processing.

Andrew Rippin MEICON-BC Conference Award

A prize is awarded to an undergraduate or graduate student who has the best paper within the discipline of Islamic Studies at the annual MEICON-BC student conference in recognition of Dr. Andrew Rippin’s contributions to the field. The adjudication of the award will be made by members of MEICON-BC.

Canadian Society of Mechanical Engineering Medal

Awarded to the student in the Faculty of Engineering, registered for a B.Eng. degree, in the Mechanical Engineering program, who stands at the head of the class on the basis of a grade point average calculated on the 30 units of 300 and 400 level course work yielding the highest average.

Department of Civil Engineering Graduation Medal

A medal is awarded to the student with the highest graduating grade point average (GPA) in a Bachelor of Engineering in Civil Engineering.

Department of Computer Science Graduation Medal*

A medal is awarded annually to the student with the highest graduating grade point average (GPA) in a Major or combined Computer Science degree program, unless that student is awarded the University of Victoria Jubilee Medal for Science. In this case, the Department of Computer Science Graduation Medal is awarded to the student with the second highest GPA.

Department of Computer Science Honours Graduation Medal*

A medal is awarded annually to a Computer Science Honours student with the highest graduating grade point average (GPA) in the Computer Science Honours program, unless that student is awarded the University of Victoria Jubilee Medal for Science. In this case, the Department of Computer Science Honours Graduation Medal is awarded to the student with the second highest GPA.

Governor General's Silver Medal

The Governor General’s Silver Medal is awarded annually to the candidate for a bachelor’s degree who stands at the head of the graduating class on the basis of graduating average.

IEEE Victoria Section Gold Medal in Biomedical Engineering

A medal is awarded to the undergraduate student with the highest graduating grade point average in Biomedical Engineering.

IEEE Victoria Section Gold Medal in Computer Engineering

Awarded to the student with the highest graduating grade point average with a B.Eng. in Computer Engineering.

IEEE Victoria Section Gold Medal in Electrical Engineering

Awarded to the student with the highest graduating grade point average with a B.Eng. in Electrical Engineering.

IEEE Victoria Section Gold Medal in Software Engineering

Awarded to the student with the highest graduating grade point average with a B.SENG. in Software Engineering.

Law Society Gold Medal and Prize

A gold medal, presented by the Law Society of British Columbia, will be awarded to the student obtaining the highest aggregate marks in the three years of study in the Faculty of Law. In addition, the Society will pay the student's Call and Admission Fee.

Maxwell A. Cameron Memorial Award

An award will be granted annually by the B.C. Teachers' Federation to the student completing the final year of the Bachelor of Education Degree in secondary school teaching, and to the student completing the final year of the Bachelor of Education Degree in elementary school teaching, who, in the opinion of the Dean of the Faculty of Education, and the director of the division (secondary or elementary) concerned, is the outstanding student in the graduating class.

University of Victoria Jubilee Medal for Humanities

This medal is awarded to the student in the Faculty of Humanities registered for the B.A. or B.Sc. degree who stands at the head of the graduating class on the basis of the graduating average, unless that student is awarded the Governor General's Silver medal. In this case the University of Victoria Jubilee Medal for Humanities is awarded to the student who stands second in the graduating class on the basis of the graduating average. The award was established by the 1978 graduating class in recognition of the University's Jubilee year.

University of Victoria Jubilee Medal for Science

This medal is awarded to the student in the Faculty of Science registered for the B.Sc. degree who stands at the head of the graduating class on the basis of the graduating average, unless that student is awarded the Governor General's Silver medal. In this case the University of Victoria Jubilee Medal for Science is awarded to the student who stands second in the graduating class on the basis of the graduating average. The award was established by the 1978 graduating class in recognition of the University's Jubilee year.

University of Victoria Jubilee Medal for Social Sciences

This medal is awarded to the student in the Faculty of Social Sciences registered for the B.A. or B.Sc. degree who stands at the head of the graduating class on the basis of the graduating average, unless that student is awarded the Governor General's Silver medal. In this case the University of Victoria Jubilee Medal for Social Sciences is awarded to the student who stands second in the graduating class on the basis of the graduating average. The award was established by the 1978 graduating class in recognition of the University's Jubilee year.

Victoria Medal*

A silver medal will be awarded annually to the candidate in the Faculty of Fine Arts, registered for the BA, BFA, BSc, or BMus degree who stands at the head of the graduating class on the basis of the graduating average.
