Entrance requirements

  • Prerequisite: BA in French or equivalent
  • Minimum standing: GPA of 6.5 (B+) in third- and fourth-year French courses. To familiarize yourself with the University of Victoria’s grading system, consult the University Academic Calendar
  • Applicants whose mother tongue is not English and who have not resided in a designated English-speaking country for three years immediately prior to the entry point applied for must provide evidence of English language proficiency
  • Applicants must also meet all the general admission requirements of the Faculty of Graduate Studies

Students with background deficiencies may be required to take make up courses before being admitted to the MA program.

Application deadline

The deadline for application is May 31. However, to be considered for a UVic fellowship, applications must normally be received by February 1. There is only one entry point: September.

How to apply for our graduate program

Apply online to UVic's Graduate Admissions and Records Office (GARO). GARO verifies that your application meets all the academic standards and that it is complete, then transmits it to the Department of French and Francophone Studies for evaluation.
