She worked diligently to lead, develop and implement several projects benefitting community partners in delivering programs to clients. Under her guidance, the Northwest Territories Community Justice Review was completed in May, 2011 resulting in 12 recommendations to improve community-based programming.
In addition, Ms. Anderson led the revision of training information specifically for RCMP members in assisting with diversion cases that are more appropriate to community-based agencies. Congratulations to April Hunt, a Child and Youth Care Diploma student from the Kwaguilth Nation on the North Island. April was announced winner of the Anthany Dawson Justice Award for Aboriginal students.
Tragically, Anthany Dawson lost his life while in police custody August 13, 1999. Anthany was an accomplished Kwakwaka'wakw artist and his passion for life moved through his artwork. This award is funded through the Victoria City Police and affirms Anthany's belief that everyone deserved a fair chance in life and was willing to help people any way that he could.
April said "I felt both honoured and very moved to have won this award. I have been really challenged by many things these past two years and this will really help support my learning for the upcoming years."
April will be graduating in November with a diploma in Child and Youth Care. She is determined to continue her learning and has enrolled in the BCYC degree program . April is supported in her learning by a large extended family, friends, her husband Rene, her children and very precious granddaughter, Jessica.
