Campus Cycling Plan Implementation - Tree Removal

As shown on attached map.

A tree located between parking lot 7A and the Dawnview Crescent pedestrian corridor is being removed in the next few days. See attached map. This removal is necessary for the construction of a new bike lane and pedestrian pathway north of the Centre for Athletics, Recreation and Special Abilities (CARSA), as part of the Campus Cycling Plan implementation.

Please respect the directions of safety officers and signage during this activity.

Ecological Restoration: The university is committed to protecting and managing the ecological  diversity of the natural areas on campus and meets the District of Saanich’s requirements for tree replacement, as applicable. In accordance with BC laws, the university coordinates tree removal with a consulting biologist to understand and/or minimize any possible wildlife impacts associated with the removal of trees.

Expanding the bike lane network: As part of the Campus Cycling Plan, the Dawnview Crescent CARSA Pathway will formalize and improve an existing cycling and pedestrian connection that many students and community members use to travel to and from the Gordon Head neighbourhood located to the north of campus.

Active transportation infrastructure helps UVic to meet the objectives of our new Climate and Sustainability Action Plan–including reducing greenhouse gas emissions and improving air quality.
