Call for applications to join the Working Group on Islamophobia and related forms of racism
The University of Victoria (UVic) is committed to combating Islamophobia by striving to make campus a safe and inclusive space for all. View UVic’s full statement in recognizing the International Day to Combat Islamophobia.
To strengthen UVic’s commitment to combating Islamophobia and related forms of racism, a Working Group on Islamophobia and related forms of racism is being created. The focus of this Working Group will be to:- Strengthen relationships and promote better understanding and empathy toward Muslim and Palestinian experiences on campus.
- Share knowledge and educate members of the UVic community about what Islamophobia means and the lived experiences of affected individuals.
- Inform decisions that impact the safety and wellbeing of UVic Muslim/Muslim-perceived students, staff and faculty.
We recognize that Islamophobia comes in many forms, including Anti-Palestinian racism. While the focus of this working group is narrow at the outset, its work is connected to ongoing equity processes at UVic and the scope and focus can evolve as efforts get underway.
Make-up of the Working Group
The Working Group ideally will be made up of 12 members representing current UVic staff, faculty and students.
- 8-9 spots will be allocated for members with lived experience of being Muslim or Muslim-perceived
- 3-4 spots will be allocated for allies or experts on Islamophobia and related forms of racism
Note: All students will be provided an honorarium for participation in the working group.

We encourage faculty, students and staff to apply to join the Working Group if you meet any of the following criteria:
