(September 16, 2016) - The Black Press reported on two grizzly bears that have been "island hopping" from the mainland and were last sighted near Malcolm Island and Telegraph Cove. Chris Darimont is quoted.  Cowichan Valley Citizen

Speaking to CBC News, Chris Darimont expressed concern over a pair of grizzly bears spotted off the north end of Vancouver Island, believed to have "island hopped" from the mainland. "We should be paying attention to their arrival…That they have not colonized islands before in any huge way tells us that there is something up," says Darimont.  CBC News

The Globe and Mail turned to Chris Darimont for comment on why grizzly bears, common on BC's central mainland coast, have been "island hopping." On Monday, grizzly bears were seen for the first time on Cormorant Island, located between Vancouver Island and the mainland.  G&M
