UVic President Jamie Cassels late last month announced the launch of a Global Reputation and Rankings Project that will ensure UVic’s global impact is being accurately assessed by the world rankings systems that have become so influential in recent years.

On Feb. 24, in the University Centre, hundreds of students, staff and faculty were on hand to greet UVic’s vibrant new look: a positioning concept, university narrative, and visual identity that reflects our university’s distinct qualities and defines the characteristics that set us apart—the UVic Edge.
Charette named to federation board
The Ring
University of Victoria Vice President External Relations Carmen Charette has been appointed as Treasurer of the Board of Directors of the Federation of Humanities and Social Sciences, for a two-year term. Charette is well-qualified for her new role. Prior to joining UVic in 2012, she served as senior vice president at the Canada Foundation for Innovation (CFI) and then executive vice president for the Social Sciences and Humanities Research Council (SSHRC).

University of Victoria Vice President External Relations Carmen Charette has been named this year’s recipient of the national Walter Hitschfeld Award from the Canadian Association of University Research Administrators. The prestigious award is presented to “an individual who has demonstrated an exceptional impact on the enhancement of the research environment in Canada.” Previous Hitschfeld winners include David Strangway, former president of the Canada Foundation for Innovation and President Emeritus of the University of Toronto and UBC, and Arthur Carty, former national science advisor to the prime minister and former president of the National Research Council.
UVic, community celebrate CARSA
