LEED
UVic makes green top 100 list
UVic has joined an elite group of Canadian employers committed to advancing sustainability. UVic is included in this year's list of Canada’s 100 Greenest Employers, and is the only organization from Victoria.
LEED Gold for South Tower
UVic’s South Tower residence building has become the sixth campus facility to achieve national recognition for environmental design and sustainability. On Jan. 4, the Canada Green Building Council officially recognized the building, opened in 2011, with gold-level certification in its Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) green building program.
LEED gold for First Peoples House
UVic’s First Peoples House is the most recent campus facility to achieve the gold-level standard in environmental design and sustainability. On July 18, the Canada Green Building Council officially recognized the building, opened in 2010, with gold-level certification in its Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) green building program.
UVic building nets LEED gold
The University of Victoria's Administrative Services Building is the fourth campus facility to achieve the gold-level standard in environmental design and sustainability. In mid-April, the Canada Green Building Council officially recognized the building, opened in late 2008, with gold-level certification in its Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) green building program.
LEED gold to second campus building
The Canada Green Building Council has conferred gold-level status in its Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) green building rating program on UVic’s Engineering/Computer Science Building (ECS). This is the second building on campus to receive LEED gold status. The Medical Sciences Building was the first. As well, UVic’s Vancouver Island Technology Park is rated gold. In all, UVic owns three of the seven LEED-certified buildings in Victoria.
Third LEED building officially opens
The Social Sciences and Mathematics Building was officially opened on June 23. The new facility provides 9,090 square metres of research, classroom and office space for students and faculty in the departments of geography, political science, mathematics and statistics, the School of Environmental Studies and the UVic/Environment Canada Water and Climate Impacts Research Centre (W-CIRC). The building is the third facility at UVic to be registered in the LEED (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design) Green Building Rating Program. Sustainable features include green roofs and extensive use of mountain pine beetle wood. More at www.uvic.ca/buildings/cab.html
