Mask policy unchanged: strongly encouraged, not mandatory indoors
The UVic Board of Governors voted today not to accept the recommendation presented by Senate calling for masks to be made mandatory indoors at the university until the end of term.
The university continues to strongly encourage the use of masks indoors; however, mask use is not mandatory. Mask regulations in BC changed on March 11, following the announcement of the Provincial Health Officer.
The UVic Board also voted to request a legal opinion regarding the decision-making framework and jurisdiction as it relates to the recommendation from Senate.
Please continue to follow public health guidance, including doing daily health checks and staying home if sick. Vaccination continues to provide the best protection from the more serious effects of COVID-19.
