Changes to UVic bus pass processes

We want you to know about some changes to the UVSS/GSS universal bus pass (U-Pass) and Employee bus pass processes.

BC Transit has launched Umo, a new payment system that will impact your bus pass. Starting this September, you’ll need to use the new Umo mobile app or a reloadable Umo card to show proof of payment on all busses in the Victoria Regional Transit System. The UVic ONECard will no longer operate as your bus pass.

Students

If you’re enrolled in at least one on-campus course for credit, you will continue to be automatically charged for a U-Pass as per UVSS/GSS policies.

How to activate your U-Pass

You can choose either the Umo App or a physical Umo card—you cannot use both.

Umo app:

  1. Download the Umo Mobility mobile app from the Apple App or Google Play Store
  2. Create an Umo account. It is suggested to use an email address as your username
  3. Get your unique-to-you UVic benefit code at mybuspass.uvic.ca
  4. Inside the app, select Redeem Benefit from the top menu
  5. Tap Change Agency and select the Victoria Regional Transit and enter your bus pass code to link your U-Pass to your app

Reloadable UMO card:

  1. Pick up a card for free from your student union or a BC Transit Umo vendor
  2. Get your unique-to-you UVic benefit code at mybuspass.uvic.ca
  3. Visit ca.umopass.com to create an account and register your card
  4. Once inside, click on the left menu, select Change Agency and select Victoria Regional Transit
  5. Select My Wallet, Redeem Benefit Code and entre your benefit code to link your U-Pass to your card

You’ll need to active your U-Pass every term with that term’s unique-to-you UVic benefit code. The steps for doing this are also available at uvic.ca/upass
