Stay safe during summer heat

- University of Victoria

Environment Canada has issued a heat warning for our region. This is a reminder for our campus community to be sun safe when outdoors and stay hydrated during hot weather.

To avoid heat-related illnesses please:

  • Stay hydrated! Drink plenty of water even before you feel thirsty.
  • Stay in a cool place and use a fan to keep the air moving.
  • Eat smaller but more frequent meals or snacks during the day.
  • Wear light clothing (e.g. cotton) that allows sweat to evaporate.
  • Avoid strenuous physical activity and caffeine drinks.
  • Vary your work/rest schedule. Take breaks as needed to keep cool and hydrated.
  • Outdoor workers, take regularly scheduled breaks in a cool place.

If you have any concerns about conditions in your work environment please speak with your supervisor.

A heat warning is a public health advisory to follow the established guidance on how to stay cool and prevent heat stress during periods of higher temperatures.
