President Cassels honoured with United Way's most prestigious award

At their annual Spirit Awards on April 22, the United Way Greater Victoria (UWGV) presented their most prestigious honour—the Chair’s Award of Distinction—to President Jamie Cassels, in recognition of his longstanding commitment to the UWGV, both in his professional capacity at UVic, and in his personal support over many years.

The UWGV noted that Cassels has been active in many professional and community organizations, including the UWGV and, since becoming UVic’s president in 2013, he has continued the legacy of support to a strong and thriving UW campaign on campus. Since 1994, UVic has raised almost $4.8 million in support of the UWGV.

When interviewed about his and UVic's support of the United Way and its programs, Cassels noted the opportunities that a workplace campaign provides to amplify individual contributions. He also described his personal commitment to the UWVG and how its priorities of support to children and those living in poverty resonate strongly with him.
