Gustavson School Of Business Keeps On Growing

More students will be able to earn their bachelor of commerce degree from the University of Victoria, thanks to continued growth at the Peter B. Gustavson School of Business.

Up to 60 more students will be admitted beginning September 2012 to year one, increasing the capacity of the program by 25 per cent to 300 students per year from 240.

“The school has an outstanding reputation and excellent business programs,” says Vice President Academic and Provost Reeta Tremblay. “It has at least three qualified applicants for every available seat in the BCom program, consequently we are very pleased that we can accommodate the demand. We are now in a position to change those numbers and are encouraging students to apply.”

“Our BCom program is unique and it’s a superb place to start the post secondary journey,” says Dr. David McCutcheon, associate dean of programs at Gustavson. “Our students get to immerse themselves in the fascinating world of management, study and gain a global outlook with our international exchange program, and earn while they learn with our mandatory co-op education component.”

The bachelor of commerce program requires students to complete their general course work during their first two years of undergraduate education and then spend their final two years entirely within their cohort at the business school. This format allows for integration across subject areas and encourages the building of networks among classmates. Undergraduate students can specialize in entrepreneurship, international business, or service management.

The deadline to apply to the BCom program is February 28, 2012. Applicants are assessed on their grades as well as their leadership abilities and community involvement. Admissions information is available at uvic.ca/go2gustavson.

In addition to the growth in the BCom Program, Gustavson’s Gill Graduate School introduced a new Master of Global Business and PhD in International Management and Organization in 2010. In 2011, the MBA program enhanced its double degree program by adding an MBA + MEng, an MBA + MSc, and MBA + Thunderbird School of Global Management double degree to complement its MBA+JD.
