Felicita opens Felicita’s

Felicita Gomez, long-serving custodian at the Student Union Building, cuts the ribbon opening the new pub, named for her, in the basement of the SUB on Jan. 10, 1983. Gomez worked as a janitor in the building for 29 years, from 1967 to 1996, during which time she got to know hundreds of UVic students and served as a kind of mother figure to many. On Nov. 30, 2012, after a UVSS webvote on renaming the campus pub, ‘Felicita’s’ carried the day and will remain the name of the SUB pub. For one student’s memories of Gomez, see http://bit.ly/Vh3LLL.
