Cherished Blues Legend B.B. King Comes To UVic

Only three months from now, the University Centre Farquhar Auditorium will host a living blues legend on its stage. On March 6, the 86-year-old African-American blues songwriter, vocalist and guitarist B.B. King will appear at UVic for one night to help remind the Victoria audience why he is often called the King of Blues.

“To present a legend like B.B. King in as intimate a venue as ours is very exciting,” says auditorium director Ian Case. “This concert is a special opportunity to celebrate the living legacies of both Mr. King and the university during UVic’s 50th anniversary celebrations. This event highlights Farquhar Auditorium’s integral role in the cultural landscape of Victoria and, with the acoustic purity of the venue, this concert is sure to be unforgettable.”

The Farquhar Auditorium brings world-class cultural events to the community and is pleased to include this performance as a 50th anniversary event. Students in 1963 enjoyed B.B. King’s music then just as much as today’s students do now.

For more than half a century, B.B. King—born Riley B. King—has defined the blues for worldwide audiences. In 1956, he and his band played an astonishing 342 one-night stands, and today, B.B. King is still touring at an impressive pace with 13 dates booked so far over four US states in January 2013 alone. Over the years, he has developed one of the world's most identifiable guitar styles, and was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 1987. He continues to average over 250 concerts per year around the world.
