CBC’s Jo-Ann Roberts speaks on campus

Popular local CBC Radio afternoon show All Points West host Jo-Ann Roberts will present a free public lecture on Public Broadcasting and the Public Good at the end of January. As the Department of Writing’s 2013 Harvey S. Southam Lecturer in Journalism and Non-fiction, Roberts will also be teaching a class on the same subject this semester. “Public broadcasting matters to every journalist in this country,” she says. “We keep the bar high, and that means private broadcasters can’t go any lower—but the lower we get, the lower their bar goes. You don’t have to be working for a public broadcaster as a journalist to care about it.” Roberts speak at 7:30 p.m. Wednesday, Jan.30, in HSD room 240.
