1st City Talks Sept. 18 - Destination Vancouver
Vancouver has a hidden history few know about. The Powell Street area commonly known as Japantown is the focus of the first lecture in the University of Victoria’s City Talks series beginning for a third year at UVic’s Legacy Art Gallery.
The first trio of talks—Sept. 20, Oct. 18 and Nov. 22—will speak to the effects of the Asian diaspora on places as spaces unknown. (Advance free registration is required for the third lecture being presented by acclaimed Canadian poet and novelist Joy Kogawa.) The second set—Jan. 24, Feb. 28 and March 21—will explore what makes cities healthier.
The free public presentations are held the third Thursday of the month at the downtown gallery. The series was launched in September 2010 by UVic’s Committee for Urban Studies and offers an informative monthly talk by a prominent speaker followed by a Q&A session with the audience.
