Workplace Bullying Focus Of Conference

Bullies aren’t confined to the schoolyard—they’re becoming increasingly prevalent in the workplace. The vicious cycle of bullies, bullied adults afraid to report the behaviour, and complacent bystanders leads to devastating consequences.

Two of the world’s foremost authorities on bullying will be in Victoria this month to speak about combating bullying and psychological harassment in the workplace as part of the “Creating Respectful Workplaces Conference” at the University of Victoria. Barbara Coloroso, author of The Bully, the Bullied, and the Bystander, will speak at 8 p.m. on Nov. 11 and Dr. Gary Namie, co-founder and director of the Workplace Bullying Institute will speak at 8 p.m. Nov. 13. Both presentations are open to the public but tickets are required.

A panel discussion on bullying and psychological harassment will be held at 8 p.m. on Nov. 12. Panelists will discuss root causes and remedies for harassment and bullying and creative ideas for changing workplace cultures. This session is free and open to the public. The lectures and the panel discussion will all be held in the David Lam Auditorium in the MacLaurin Building.
