Recycle The Cycle: Spokes Anniversary Celebration
UVic’s Office of Campus Planning and Sustainability will be celebrating the five-year anniversary of the innovative SPOKES bicycle bursary program on Friday, December 12 from noon to 2 p.m. in the SPOKES storage cage in the University Centre parkade. SPOKES volunteers will also be making a special program announcement courtesy of the Victoria Foundation. Music, snacks, prizes and beverages will be provided.
With the help of dedicated sponsors and volunteers, the SPOKES program has distributed more than 1,000 bursaries to UVic students, faculty and staff since 2003. Each bursary includes a refurbished bike, bike lock and an opportunity to take free commuter cycling courses. The program is sponsored by a number of UVic organizations and run by volunteers who teach and learn from each other.
