Back to Campus For Successful Executive
It’s a case of back to the future for successful Victoria software executive Eric Jordan, who is returning to the University of Victoria campus to become executive-in-residence in the Faculty of Business. Jordan graduated from UVic in 1993 with a Bachelor of Fine Arts. Along with fellow UVic student David Manning, he went on to found PureEdge Software, which provided a secure system to transfer legal documents electronically. Jordan was president and CEO of the company and later chief strategy officer when it was acquired by IBM in 2005. Prior to the sale, PureEdge grew from two employees to over 70 and became one of the top two electronic forms companies in North America.
As executive-in-residence, Jordan will serve as an on-site guest lecturer and panel member, provide advice to faculty and students with research projects, and help broaden the business faculty’s relationships with the high-tech community. He’ll be available three days a week to meet and talk with business students, faculty and staff.
“We’re very pleased that Eric has joined UVic Business as our executive-in-residence,” says Dean of Business Ali Dastmalchian. “He’s a creative thinker and will be a valuable mentor to students, especially those pursuing the entrepreneurship specialization in the BCom and MBA programs.
In 2004 Jordan received a UVic Distinguished Alumni award for professional achievement. He serves on several boards including the Premier’s Technology Council, the Vancouver Island Advanced Technology Board, and the B.C. Technology Industry Association Board. In the community, Jordan helped found the “High-tech Challenge”— a Christmas food drive for the Mustard Seed Food Bank. His honours include a Business in Vancouver “Top 40 Business People Under 40” Award, the Greater Victoria Chamber of Commerce Young Entrepreneur of the Year Award, and the VIATeC Colin Lennox Award for Technology Champion.
