Aboriginal Awareness Week Offers "Unreserved" Events

Bannock baking and revolution making are just two of the items on the schedule when UVic's Native Students' Union presents "Aboriginal Awareness Week" from Feb. 26 to March 2 throughout the campus. "Unreserved: Aboriginal Art, Politics and the Revolution" includes speakers' panels, films, performances, art exhibitions and workshops. All events are open to the public. The Native Students' Union, along with artists and artisans, will have displays in the Student Union Building throughout the week. Other events include:

Monday, February 26
3:00 p.m. "Music & Movement," a presentation of traditional and contemporary cultural performances. Cinecenta Theatre.
6:00 p.m. "Reel Stories about Real People," short films by Indigenous filmmakers. Cornett B108. (Admission by donation.)
7:00 p.m. First Nation Student Panel. David Strong Building room C108.

Tuesday, February 27
2:00 p.m. Presentation and workshop by Robina Thomas on research and storytelling. Grad Students Centre lounge.
4:00 p.m. "Legends and Stories in Animation," animated short films on legends of Canada's First Nations. Cornet B108. (Admission by donation).
7:00 p.m. Songhees Dance Group, Michele Pujol Room, Student Union Building.

Wednesday, February 28
