UVic Congress 2013 Seeks Volunteers

Congress 2013, Canada’s biggest multidisciplinary academic conference, will be hosted at the University of Victoria from June 1-8, 2013 and volunteers are needed.

Congress offers eight exciting days of academic excellence, public lectures and community celebrations as part of UVic’s 50th anniversary. More than 7,000 academics and researchers representing 70 associations will be on campus to share findings, refine ideas and build partnerships that will help shape the Canada of tomorrow.

Volunteers will have the opportunity to increase skills, be part of a team and have fun at the same time. “Our volunteers will help us create a successful event and positive delegate experience,” says Congress Manager Suzanne Dane. “We will give them the tools and training they need, along with plenty of appreciation, in return for a minimum time commitment of four hours.”

Volunteers are needed in areas such as campus hospitality, wayfinding, residence support, transportation services, social media and audiovisual services. Those interested can sign up online at www.uviccongress2013.ca/staff-volunteers or email volunteers@uviccongress2013.ca.

Congress will feature many events and activities that are free and open to everyone including the Big Thinking speaker series, Canada’s largest academic book fair, daily performances on the outdoor stage, an artisan fair, exhibits and social and cultural events.
