The Ring

In line with the university’s vision of excellence in civic engagement and community-engaged research, UVic has established a new office to integrate support of its vision across all sectors of the university with specific strategic goals. The Office of Community University Engagement [OCUE] will build on the university’s initiatives that over the years have forged strong relationships with community organizations aimed at meaningful change on society’s economic, social, cultural, technological and environmental challenges.

Coming full circle with United Way

The Ring

Carmel Chamberlain, of UVic’s School of Public Health and Social Policy, knows full well the healing potential and importance of having a network of different types of support during times of struggle. This is especially true when the safety and happiness of one’s family is on the line. Carmel has been on both sides of the United Way’s efforts, both accessing United Way funded programs and services, and recently working with United Way as a Loaned Representative during the 2014 Greater Victoria fundraising campaign.

Flag lowering for Erma Richardson

The Ring

The university flag will be lowered on Thursday, May 14, 2015 in honour of Erma Richardson who passed away last September at age 95. Erma worked at UVic from 1966 to 1984. After retiring from the Registrar’s office, Erma volunteered for several years at the Learning Disabilities Association. A private memorial for family will be held on campus on Thursday.
