Energy reduction leads to STARS sustainability gold—again

The McKinnon pool heat recovery system is just one of many initiatives that have helped UVic achieve its second gold rating with the Sustainability, Tracking, Assessment and Rating System (STARS). The 2017 score maintains UVic’s gold ranking, originally established in 2014, and makes it the second highest-rated university in Canada.

Flag lowered in memory of Elder-in-Residence Dr. Marie Cooper

The university flag will be lowered in memory of Elder-in-Residence Dr. Marie Cooper on Friday, Apr. 7. Marie passed away peacefully on Mar. 31 at home. She was a tireless advocate and leader in education and for her people. Marie's passing is a poignant reminder of her immense legacy, which is a lasting gift to her community, the WSANEC School Board, School District 63, Camosun College and the University of Victoria.

Cassels reappointed to second term

Prof. Jamie Cassels has been reappointed to a second five-year term as president and vice-chancellor of the University of Victoria, effective July 1, 2018. The appointment was unanimously approved by the Board of Governors, following a unanimous recommendation from the Committee for the Appointment of the President.

Alcohol + energy drinks = increased risk: study

People who mix highly caffeinated energy drinks with their alcoholic beverages may be at increased risk for injury—both intentional (fights and violence) and unintentional (falling, tripping and motor vehicle accidents)—according to a new study by the UVic's Centre for Addictions Research.
