To help prevent the spread of COVID-19, students will not be required to provide a medical note (i.e. a health care practitioner’s note) to their instructor as proof of illness.

On January 7, Dr. Bonnie Henry extended the province-wide Public Health Orders, restricting a range of events and social gatherings, until Feb. 5, 2021.

Although we still don’t know exactly what the public health situation will be like in a few months, we are sharing our direction now so that students have time to plan and so that our faculty and instructors can start thinking about and preparing their summer courses.

BC’s provincial health officer (PHO) asks that we avoid non-essential travel, both within and outside of BC. However, you can travel to your home for the winter break as long as you take precautions. Please follow all health and safety protocols in your home region.

The UVic campus will be closed for the holidays from Dec. 25 to Jan. 3. The campus officially re-opens on Jan. 4, 2021. Some services will be offered virtually due to the ongoing pandemic. 

The University of Victoria Senate has approved an extension to the winter break for students. Classes for the spring (January-April) term will begin Monday, Jan. 11 instead of Jan. 6, 2021.

As you prepare for final assignments and exams, we want to remind you of the many resources we have available to support you during this demanding time.

Classes are cancelled on Friday, Dec. 4 from 11:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. to allow UVic students, faculty and staff to commemorate the events of Dec. 6, 1989.
