Student teams from UVic’s Gustavson School of Business swept the South Island Prosperity Project's community-improvement Future Innovator Challenge, taking the top three spots of the post-secondary category. The challenge engages young innovators in helping to improve the quality of life for citizens of the region.

Celebrating its 10th anniversary this year, the Jamie Cassels Undergraduate Research Awards (JCURA) have supported 1,013 undergraduates in every discipline on research topics ranging from mindful meditation’s effect on stress, attention and exam performance to the biological impacts of a transition to solar energy. As an innovator and advocate of experiential learning, Cam Owens elevated awareness about the value of field schools when he joined UVic’s Department of Geography in 2012. Seven years later, the department has added five field-based schools to its undergraduate program and the popular Sustainability Field School has two programs: the Cascadia Field School and the Urban-Europe Field School.
