Nominations invited for great alumni, teachers

Nominations close Jan. 30 (deadline extended) for the Distinguished Alumni Awards and the Alumni Award for Excellence in Teaching from the UVic Alumni Association.

Up to three Distinguished Alumni Awards will be presented in 2004 to UVic grads prominent in the fields of academics, athletics, fine arts, business or professional life, or public and community service.

The Alumni Award for Excellence in Teaching is for current faculty members, senior instructors, sessional lecturers or senior lab instructors who have taught at the university for at least three years.

Nomination forms are online at: alumni.uvic.ca/awards/index.html.

Recipients will be honoured at the university’s 2004 Legacy Awards—the annual gala dinner celebrating alumni achievement, outstanding teaching and athletic excellence.

More than 400 university supporters attended this year’s Legacy Awards, held Nov. 24 at the Victoria Conference Centre.

Proceeds from the Legacy Awards support scholarships and athletic awards.

Past Distinguished Alumni Award recipients include Aboriginal rights advocate Miles Richardson, Edmonton Journal publisher Linda Hughes and world champion cyclist Alison Sydor.
