Dr. Feng Xu, Associate Professor of Political Science at the University of Victoria

CAPI is pleased to announce the appointment of UVic political scientist Feng Xu as our 2022-23 Visiting China Researcher. Dr. Xu has been involved with the Centre for about fifteen years as an active member of CAPI's steering committee, a lead on our long-term Migration and Mobility Program (including as editor-in-chief for the program journal, Migration, Mobility, and Displacement), and most recently, as a Senior Research Fellow, advancing CAPI's public programming and publications.

Dr. Xu specializes in comparative politics and the Global South (China). Her current research interests concern feminist political economy, migration and urbanization, and labour markets, with a recent project exploring eldercare labour markets in Vancouver and Shanghai.

During her research visitorship, Dr. Xu will oversee the production of two issues of Migration, Mobility, and Displacement, host a panel discussion on the Chinese economy and its zero-covid strategy, and work on grant applications in support of her new project focusing on the "precarity of Chinese youth" in a general environment of economic slowdown.
