Sylvia Olsen
How to Teach Indigenous History When You Are Not: What to do with the Hard Topics like Residential Schools

Sylvia Olsen is an award winning author of 17 books, many of which are teen novels. She writes about the in between places where cultures meet, where Indigenous and non-Indigenous people come together and get along, or not. Since moving onto a reserve when she was 17, the study of inter-cultural relations has been Sylvia’s passion. She thinks it is time to talk about the things we have kept silent and for all of us to find new voices—together—to bring about a new relationship. Sylvia’s novel about Kuper Island Residential School, No Time to Say Goodbye, has been selected for the BC middle school curriculum.
