The salary range for teaching one 1.5 unit course is $6732 to $8232 plus 4% vacation pay and is determined by the candidate’s education and experience.

Interested individuals should apply to the Acting Chair, Professor Gillian Calder, Department of Gender Studies, University of Victoria, by e-mail to gndrapp@uvic.ca  to arrive by no later than 4 PM ON Monday March 4th, 2024. Applications should include a cover letter, a curriculum vitae and the names and contact details of three referees. We will continue accepting applications up until positions are filled but first consideration will go to those who have applied by the above date.

The cover letter (a separate document – not included in the body of the email) should indicate which courses the applicant would be prepared to teach and what qualifications the applicant has for teaching these particular courses. The Department is seeking qualified instructors for: GNDR 100 – Gender, Power and Difference (multiple sections through the year) and special topics classes (to be taught at the 2nd or 3rd year level) that will add breadth to our existing course offerings. Please see the UVic academic calendar for current course titles and information: https://www.uvic.ca/calendar/undergrad/index.php#/courses. The department would entertain proposals from our existing course offering for this application intake.

Specific course offerings will depend on the availability of qualified instructors and are subject to final budgetary approval. Unexpected vacancies may occur at any time. Qualified individuals living (or expecting to live) in the Greater Victoria area are especially encouraged to apply, and to maintain a current statement of interests and qualifications on file with the Chair.

In all appointments, preference will be given to those with a completed or nearly complete PhD and a combination of expertise and experience appropriate to the courses concerned, though those with MAs in Gender and Women’s studies or other related fields will also be considered. The University of Victoria is committed to upholding the values of equity, diversity, and inclusion in our living, learning and work environments. In pursuit of our values, we seek members who will work respectfully and constructively with differences and across levels of power. We actively encourage applications from members of groups experiencing barriers to equity. Read our full equity statement here: www.uvic.ca/equitystatement. All qualified candidates are encouraged to apply; however, in accordance with Canadian Immigration requirements, Canadian and permanent residents will be given priority.

The University of Victoria reserves the right to fill additional teaching assignments from the pool of applicants for this posting. Applications must reach the Acting Chair at gndrapp@uvic.ca no later than 4 PM Monday, March 4th 2024.
