Pro-D Session on AI with UVic Libraries
UVic Libraries is helping instructors and students navigate the growing role of artificial intelligence in teaching, learning, and research. At the Pro-D event on October 8th, 2025, led by Courtney Lundrigan (UVic Libraries’ Head of Engagement and Learning), attendees learned about the library’s current and upcoming AI resources designed to promote ethical and effective use.
Instructors can access personalized guidance from librarians and tutorials as well as a “Scholarly Use of Generative AI” guide. This guide includes editable slides, tips for citing AI-generated text and images, and strategies to evaluate AI content. Additional resources focused on the ethical use of AI are coming soon.
Students have access to workshops, one-on-one librarian appointments, and self-guided modules to explore AI tools at their own pace. Specialized resources, including guidance for legal research using generative AI, are also available. Additional student supports in development include digital literacy drop-ins with the Learning Commons, guidance on digital wellness, and library tools such as sensory kits, spinners, noise-cancelling headphones, and walking workstations.
By continuing to expand these offerings, UVic Libraries is ensuring that both instructors and students can engage with AI responsibly, confidently, and effectively in their teaching and learning.
