The Jamie Cassels Undergraduate Research Awards (JCURA) program was established in 2009-2010 by the Vice-President Academic and Provost. The goal of this award is to encourage undergraduates to pursue innovative and original research to enhance their learning while at the University of Victoria and to provide a valuable preparatory experience towards graduate studies or a research related career.

Evangeline Wagner is a student at the University of Victoria studying Health Information Science. She is a research analyst for the Global Laboratory of Digital Health Innovation, working with Dr. Elizabeth Borycki. Her interests include technological assisted living, patient safety, public health and the use of robotics in healthcare. Evangeline's research is focused on the use of robotic technology's' in supporting those living with dementia and their caregivers. Specifically, how the robotic device can assist the patient and the caregiver with activities of daily living (ADLs) and instrumental activities of daily living (IADLs).

Thomas Armstrong is currently studying Health Information Science at the University of Victoria and works on the One Person One Record (OPOR) project at Nova Scotia Health. Before entering health informatics, Thomas studied Kinesiology at York University. As well, Thomas worked with adapting sports equipment for Paralympic athletes, enthusiasts and individuals rehabbing with adaptive needs. Thomas's research is focused on what lessons British Columbia can learn from Cuba's national eHealth strategy. As a world leader in the health industry there is much that can be studied from Cuba's experiences, successes, and challenges.
