School of Health Information Science

Revolutionizing health care through information technology

Health information science is the study of:

  • how health data are collected, stored and communicated,
  • how those data are processed into health information suitable for administrative and clinical decision making, and
  • how computer and telecommunications technology can be applied to support these processes

Students learn to identify what information and data are needed by doctors, nurses, hospital administrators, government planners and other health care professionals and how they are used in order to make effective health care decisions.

As health information is increasingly being processed by computers and transmitted by communications technology, the school's programs have a significant technological component.

Our programs

We offer a Bachelor of Science degree in Health Information Science as well as a combined Major in Computer Science and Health Information Science.

At the graduate level, we offer an MSc program on-campus or online and a formal PhD program. We also offer a new double degree: Master of Nursing & Master of Science in Health Information Science
