Art resource centre

UVic offers a vibrant environment in which to explore the central role that art plays in education. Be sure to visit the art resource centre if you're studying elementary or secondary education or working towards your Master's or PhD in art education.

Our two large, bright studios are used for labs and course work, and are available to art education students for art making studio explorations.

The A.Wilfrid Johns Gallery exhibits artworks of students from all around the world from K-Master's.

Archival Collection

Our archival collection of art education includes: journals , books, short films, filmstrips and records, children's Artworks, Rhoda Kellog Collection, Marion Small.

Curriculum library

The University of Victoria Libraries' Curriculum Library is a specialized facility within the MacLaurin Building and primarily serves the learning, teaching and research needs of undergraduate education students. We offer resources and services to support the British Columbia K-12 curriculum: Integrated Resource Packages (IRPs), textbooks, children's literature, educational software and videos, as well as audio-visual equipment, computer labs and technical support for students and faculty.

Math resource centre

Do you need to teach a lesson on money for a Grade 1 class? Or one on geometry for Grade 6?

The math resource room can help you find great ideas. The resource room caters to students of elementary education (K-7), and contains math education resources like current textbook series and activity idea books.

You can sign out any of the resources for 48 hours.

Media resource centre

Got a question about music theory? Wondering how to plan a band seating chart? Confused about the difference between rhythm and beat?

The music resource room contains a wide selection of music education resources like band method books, choral music, instructional manuals and textbooks, current and past music education journals, records, tapes, CD-roms, and videos.

There's a bulletin board to keep you up to speed with current interest topics. A song list inventories all melodies featured in the resource room's books for quick and easy student access.

Students can borrow musical instruments -- anything from Orff instruments to band instruments to guitars. Come in and have a look!

Students use the resource room as a study room, place of research, and generally as a gathering place for the musically-inclined.

Loan periods for library resources range from one hour or a day for Reserve loans to one week for most other materials.

Science resource centre

Do you need to teach a lesson on sound for a Grade 2 class? Or one on animal adaptations for Grade 4?

The science resource room can help you find great ideas, clarify the assignment, or listen and offer feedback on your unit overview.

The resource room caters to students of elementary education (K-7). It contains science education resources like current textbook series, activity idea books, some videos and science related children's literature and expository texts. For your practicum, you can also borrow equipment like magnets, magnifying glasses or eye-droppers, prisms or spring scales.

A popular resource is the Unit Plan Binders, which contain unit overviews, activity ideas from science teaching journals, and Internet resource suggestions. The binders have real-world connections and have been taught and tested by teachers. You can sign out any of the resources for 48 hours.
