Workshop: Visualization Techniques for Analyzing Mixed-method Trajectory Data - 2013-05-09
In addition to the May 10, 2013 Research Conference, the UVic School of Nursing is hosting the May 9 workshop, Visualization Techniques for Analyzing Mixed-method Trajectory Data, led by Dr.
Sharron L. Docherty (Duke University), with special guest Dr. Margarete Sandelowski (University of North Carolina). The workshop will run 1:00 – 4:00 pm, May 9, 2013.
The UVic School of Nursing is proud to present Visualization Techniques for Analyzing Mixed-method Trajectory Data. Interest in and appreciation for person-oriented and case-centered research
designs has increased as a result of the need for context-dependent knowledge in the practice disciplines. In contrast to variable-oriented approaches, analysis methods that search for patterns,
trends, or typologies in case-centered and mixed-method qualitative and quantitative data are needed. Visualization is a key component of these novel methods in which patterns are identified across
trajectories of data around a case.
This three hour workshop, led by Dr. Sharron L. Docherty (Duke University), featuring special guest, Dr. Margarete Sandelowski (University of North Carolina), will introduce participants to
recently developed exploratory visualization software and methodology that allows for graphic display of multiple layers and varying configurations of different levels of data. At the end of the
workshop participants will be able to:
1. Discuss conceptualizations of trajectory research methods that include longitudinal, mixed-method designs to capture stability, change, and development across person- or
case-oriented studies.
2. Describe the purposes and uses of visualization as a key data analytic method for trajectory research methods.
3. Explore longitudinal, case study, mixed-method data trajectories for patterns and trends that lead to enhanced insights into complex phenomen
