Faces of UVic Research: Deborah Begoray
Dr. Deborah Begoray is a Professor at the Department of Curriculum and Instruction at the University of Victoria Faculty of Education. She has experience in literacy teaching and research in a variety of contexts and with a wide range of learners including students, teachers and clinical professionals in K-12 language arts, in other school curricula (such as literacy in mathematics), and health literacy in schools and in other health contexts such as clinics and in Nursing education. In this video, she discusses her current research project on health literacy and it's application in schools. She explains how the media can influence health literacy and how important it is for adolescents to learn ways to critically assess media messages about health and health information. Dr. David Blades is a Professor of Science Education and Curriculum Theory with the Department of Curriculum & Instruction at the University of Victoria Faculty of Education. Faces of UVic Research: Helen Raptis
Dr. Helen Raptis studies the history of education and is a professor in the Department of Curriculum and Instruction at the University of Victoria. In this video she discusses her work on minority learners in the education system, specifically her work on First Nations learners between 1930s and 1970s, and the modern graduation rate of First Nations learners. She explains the importance of the past, in our understanding and the creation of future policy in regards to education.
