Who we are

The Equity and Human Rights (EQHR) office champions UVic's commitment to practices of equity, fairness and inclusion. We are a resource for all UVic community members, providing education, information, assistance and advice in aid of building and supporting an inclusive campus. We believe that our campus should represent the diversity of our larger communities and that every person should be treated equitably. Through partnership on and off campus, we foster communities where strength is found in diversity and respect for difference provides dynamism and vibrancy to university life.

What we do

EQHR leads UVic in developing and coordinating plans, policies and procedures to promote equity, diversity and inclusion in employment and education. This includes providing education on best equity practices, prevention of human rights violations like discrimination, harassment, and sexualized violence as well as offering consult on equity plans and advising the university on how to reach its strategic goals in these areas.

When issues and concerns arise, we are here to assist community members and help guide them through the range of available options such as dispute resolution, investigating human rights complaints, and providing information and support in cases of sexualized violence.
