Juan is assessing the structural and functional alterations following repeated mild traumatic brain injury (rmTBI) in juvenile individuals. He uses a novel awake closed head injury model developed in this lab to induce rmTBI. Juan is specifically interested in changes occuring in the hippocampus, a brain structure involved in learning, memory and mood disorders. He employs in vivo electrophyisiology to study alterations in neuronal function and Laser Scaning Confocal Microscopy to assess modifications in neuronal structure. Juan joined the program in 2015.
