Alicia is characterising a new model she has developed to induce repeat mild traumatic brain injury (mTBI) in juveniles. Her work is evaluating how neuroinflammation may interact with axonal damage to produce functional deficits in the hippocampus, a brain structure involved in learning and memory that may be particularly vulnerable to damage during a head injury. She entered the lab as an MSc student in 2013, and was accepted into the PhD program in 2015. Her work has been funded by CIHR CGS-M (2014-15) and CGS-D (2016-19) awards.
