To calculate these costs, PhD student Adam Sherk developed the International Model of Alcohol Harms and Policies, or InterMAHP.

For sharks, it’s more where they eat than what they eat. Thanks to a new study co-authored by UVic biologists Francis Juanes and Amy Teffer, it’s clear coastal sharks have very different feeding patterns than deeper ocean sharks and it could help overturn declines in the world’s shark populations.

The Central Coast Indigenous Resource Alliance partnered with UVic conservation scientist Natalie Ban and colleagues on two recent publications on the status of two marine species. By interviewing Indigenous fishers, Ban and collaborators were able to fill in data gaps, with implications for research applicable to BC and elsewhere in the world.

Growing up on the Iberian Peninsula in the northwest region of Spain, Enriquez spoke her native language of Galician at home. "It may well turn out that there is another planet out there, but in our survey we find no evidence requiring an extra planet in the outer solar system to explain what we’re seeing."
