UVic scholar and UNESCO Co-Chair Budd Hall helps propel community-based research across Canada and around the world. On May 6, he received a prestigious national award for his
years of service.
The new Language Revitalization Pole, commissioned by the First Nations Education Foundation (FNEF), will be located at UVic as a centrepiece of UN International Year of Indigenous
Languages and is also a significant point of reflection for UVic’s ongoing commitment to the work of decolonizing and Indigenizing the university.
UVic and UNESCO are working together to create and deliver community-based research training to tackle local and global health and education needs. The initiative is being led by
Budd Hall, professor of community development in UVic's School of Public Administration, and Rajesh Tandon, founding president of Participatory Research in Asia.
Alan Pence, former director of UVic's School of Child and Youth Care, is focusing on enhancing policies for early childhood education in sub-Saharan Africa through a new UNESCO
co-chair arrangement with Hasina Banu Ebrahim, a Muslim scholar from the University of South Africa.
