National Day of Remembrance and Action on Violence against Women

- University of Victoria

Dec. 6 is the National Day of Remembrance and Action on Violence against Women. Thirty-one years ago the country was forced to confront the tragic impacts of misogyny on our communities. In 2020 we continue to confront gender-based violence and acknowledge that violence is disproportionately enacted against some groups of people based on their sex, gender, race, class, religion and socio-economic status.

Classes are cancelled on Friday, Dec. 4 from 11:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. to allow UVic students, faculty and staff to commemorate the events of Dec. 6, 1989 and reflect that gender-based violence persists, 31 years after this atrocious event.

On Dec. 4, we ask our community to share in our commitment to end gender-based violence by taking this hour to reflect and commit to action.
