Experts on Earth Day 2016
The following University of Victoria experts are available for comment to media about Earth Day 2016, which this year is marked by the official signing—by Canada, the US, China and more than 100 other countries—of the Paris Agreement:
Paul Walde (Dept. of Visual Arts) is an expert in the impacts of changing landscapes in the North. As an artist and composer, many of his recent works have examined interconnections between landscape and technology, including Requiem for a Glacier, works included in the exhibitions, Polar Shift, Polar Lab, and his February 2016 residency at Alaska's Anchorage Museum. He can discuss melting ice and global warming in the context of visually obvious changes in the North. (Office: 250-686-3613 or by email at paul.f.walde@gmail.com)

Robert Gifford (Dept. of Psychology/School of Environmental Studies) is an expert in environmental psychology and the barriers to sustainable behavior. He can discuss what it will take to change human behavior in relation to climate change—“the dragons of inaction”—the reasons why people don’t do more to prevent climate change.
