UVic students, alumni make a difference through volunteering
Over 250 University of Victoria students and alumni will fan out across the region on Saturday, Oct. 3 to volunteer in 19 local organizations as part of Project Serve Day.
Coordinated by UVic and Volunteer Victoria, Project Serve introduces students to the opportunities and fulfillment of community service learning, by volunteering for the day in diverse areas such as organic farming, therapeutic riding, elder care, addiction/poverty services, among others.
Project Serve Day 2015 is connecting with 10 first-time community partners including Anawim House, Transition Sooke, CRD Regional Parks and the Gorge Road Hospital.
“Project Serve Day allows students at UVic to get out in the community, do meaningful volunteer work, and learn from the incredible volunteers and staff at the agencies we’re partnering with. We want the project to be mutually beneficial for everyone,” said Angi Eddy, UVic’s Residence Education Coordinator. “We’re committed to providing civic engagement opportunities for our students. Project Serve Day is an amazing way for participants to reflect on how serving the community positively influences them as academic learners.”
Project Serve Day is sponsored by Hot House Pizza, Gordon Food Services and Dairyland.
