Experts on BC budget

The following University of Victoria faculty members can discuss the Feb. 18 provincial budget:

Elisabeth Gugl (Dept. of Economics) is an economist who teaches in the areas of labour economics, public finance and microeconomic theory. Dr. Gugl studies family economics and the decision-making that takes place within families and can comment on what implications the provincial budget might have for families. Michael J. Prince (Human & Social Development) will be “looking to this new budget to see if there is still any policy and budgetary life in the Premier’s ‘families-first agenda.’” Dr. Prince is UVic’s Lansdowne Professor of Social Policy, a political scientist who studies contemporary public government services in Canada, and expert in social program spending including for disability support, child services, income assistance and housing. Graham Voss (Dept. of Economics) is a macroeconomist who has worked directly with private sector and government organizations on public infrastructure spending, public accounts and inflation. Dr. Voss can comment on the general nature of the provincial budget, its priorities in terms of spending and revenue; budget balance; projections used for the budget; and overall transparency of the budget presentation.
