Expert on BC's melting glaciers

Science

The following University of Victoria faculty member is available to discuss how extreme weather impacts the melting of BC’s glaciers. (UVic’s recent installation of a weather station on the Columbia Icefield in the Rocky Mountains will help tell the story of climate change and the impact of extreme weather on a shrinking snowpack; the station tower in real time will eventually deliver data and pictures to scientists and Parks Canada as well as for public display at Parks’ Interpretation Centres.)

David Atkinson (Geography) is an expert in monitoring and predicting large-scale weather systems and the impact of extreme weather events often caused by climate change. He is available to media and can be reached Monday to Friday between 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. (Office: 250-721-7332 or datkinso@uvic.ca)
