Ethics and assisted suicide
The following University of Victoria expert is available to discuss the Supreme Court of Canada hearing on assisted suicide.
Eike-Henner Kluge (Department of Philosophy) is an expert in medical ethics. He was the ethics advisor to North Saanich resident Sue Rodriguez, whose case in 1993 was the first to challenge section 241(b) of the Canadian Criminal Code. The founding director of the Canadian Medical Association’s Department of Ethics and Legal Affairs, Kluge was the first expert witness in medical ethics recognized by Canadian courts. He has acted in that capacity in Alberta, British Columbia and Ontario and has been a consultant to Health Canada, various provincial Ministries of Health and Health Regions and has presented invited testimony to Royal Commissions and Parliamentary Committees (offices: 250-721-7519 or 250-642-0132 or ekluge@uvic.ca)
